OMATIVE Adaptive Control Monitor (ACM) technology provides a smart solution to current machining limitations. OMATIVE ACM systems monitor actual cutting conditions in real-time, and automatically adjust the feed rate to its optimal level during each operation. OMATIVE ACM automatically ensures that critical cutting parameters do not exceed their acceptable levels. The system is constantly ready to warn of any impending damage and if necessary, it stops the machine in cases of overload conditions or tool breakage.

OMATIVE ACM systems continuously display the cutting tool condition and indicate when to change worn tools, avoiding costly tool breakage, part damage, and wasteful early tool replacements.

OMATIVE ACM's unique expert system systematically calculates optimal feed rates for each specific cutting tool and workpiece material, and adjusts cutting feeds in real-time. Smaller spindle loads activate higher feeds while greater spindle loads trigger lower feeds, especially in critical roughing and semi-finishing applications where load variations are considerable.

This real-time approach to machining optimization addresses actual cutting conditions, tool wear level, and workpiece material characteristics. Based on this approach, ACM systems reduce cycle times significantly, prevent damage to tools, parts, and machine, and minimize production disruptions.

An ACM configuration for every CNC machine

With a range of configurations in its product line, OMATIVE systems can offer an ACM solution for every CNC machine. ACM systems consist of two main components:

  • ACM user interface that is used to initialize, configure, and monitor the ACM functions
  • ACM real-time control that automatically executes the monitoring and optimization functions

Depending on the specific CNC, each ACM component may be all-software fully integrated into the CNC, or firmware built into an Add-On Hardware package. All-Software solutions are available for later CNC models. Older CNC models usually require some ACM hardware components.
